School Status :

Learning Gateway Status :

The hardest job of any Headteacher is the same as it has always been – ensuring that all pupils achieve their potential. This remains my fundamental aim, and is brought about by continually developing a stimulating curriculum supported by the highest standards of teaching and learning and a robust behaviour and discipline policy. The triple specialist status of Performing Arts, Sports, Maths and ICT allow considerable opportunities that pervade all curriculum areas, resulting in high levels of engagement and extensive extra-curricular uptake.

In line with the Government’s plans for a reformed system of strong, autonomous schools, Eastwood became an Academy on 17th August 2011, and is the highest performing non-selective school in the borough of Southend.

Learning Gateway User Guide

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to e-gateway. The principle aim of this facility is to provide parents with easily accessible, real-time information relating to their child. A range of academic and pastoral data is available which I hope will facilitate extended dialogue with the Academy.

Teacher Training

The Eastwood & Leigh Graduate Teacher Training Partnershipis a highly successful training consortium which offers an employment-based initial teacher training (EBITT) route into teaching. Trainees work in a school and follow an individual training programme designed to enable them to meet the Secretary of State's standards for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The Eastwood School was subject to an OFSTED Inspection on 3rd and 4th November 2010, following the normal 3-year review cycle. The School was graded as “good” which has provided a very attainable springboard towards “outstanding” in the next 18 months.

The Academy has three specialist areas - Performing Arts, Sport and Mathematics and Computing. On a national level, this translates to Eastwood being only 1 of 46 schools with a triple specialist status and 1 of only 3 in Essex.

The next PTA meeting will take place on wednesday 9th May at 5pm at Miller & Carter, Rayleigh Road. The Chair Ms Gerry Cassidy is keen to recruit parents and can be contacted through gcassidy@eastwood.southend.sch.uk
